How Much Should Paint Cost?

Paint ranges from $10 per gallon on the extreme low end, to about $60 per gallon on the high-end.
interestingly, even though there can be a difference of $50 per gallon, the overall expense isn't that great but the quality difference is miles apart. If you are painting the exterior of your home and using 20 gallons of paint. The most extreme difference in cost could be about $1,000. But you would be paying a painting contractor well more than $5,000 to paint your house (and probably well more than $10,000). So even the most extreme example shows the difference being only 10% - 20%. So why paint your home with junk, when you can use a paint that will hold up well, fade less, more mildew resistant, fill in the cracks, and even use less paint because it covers better.
It just doesn't make sense to skimp on paint. Even the best paint is still relatively inexpensive and cutting corners on product quality isn't worth it.
Ask your painting contractor what paint they recommend. If they use inferior product quality, find another painter.
You should estimate about $40-$60 per gallon of paint. This will cover most situations and will get you a top quality product.
